61年本校化學系學士;69年美國辛辛那提大學化學系博士;71年起任本副研究員、研究員、副所長、所長,並合聘為國立台灣大學化學系副教授及教授;77年獲西德宏博獎金赴杜塞道夫大學為訪問學者;81年籌設國立中正大學化學系及研究所;85至88年任中國化學會秘書長及會誌總編輯;88至今任亞洲化學會聯盟(FACS)執行委員;76年中山學術著作獎;77年西德宏博訪問學者;78年國科會傑出研究獎;83年中國化學會誌最佳論文獎;94年亞洲化學會聯盟特殊貢獻獎;95年中國化學會服務獎章;102年科技部傑出研究獎;
研究領域

主要之研究方向為理論有機化學及有機光化學。
探討有機化合物之特性及反應活性,包括結構與活性間之關係、及遠距離軌域間之作用情形等。
設計並合成有機烯類光電材料,如電激發光材料、有機光電池材料、有機光敏性化合物、螢光標示染料、有機整流元件、以及有機電晶體材料等。
